| B-52 Crash site Article 1 of 4 These articles are dedicated to those who serve our country and a memorial to those who gave their lives on Elephant Mountain in Maine on January 24, 1963.
The B-52 flew out of Westover AFB, MA on a routine low-level radar mission, when it went down due to a structural fault. It had a wingspan of 185 feet and was 160 feet long from head to tail. There were no weapons aboard.
It crashed on this site 10 seconds after it's vertical stabilizer broke off on the east side of the mountain.
A crew of six and three observers were aboard. Two survived the crash. Of the two survivors, pilot, LTC Dante Bulli parachuted to the ground with a broken foot. His navigator, Gerald Adler is the only person to survive an ejection from an aircraft without the parachute opening. He landed upright in the snow in his ejection seat. Both men survived a night of -30 degrees temperature and five feet of snow before they were rescued. Adler retired from the Air Force, Bullii went on to fly again.
The other seven men on board perished in the crash.
The B-52 crash site on Elephant Mountain, Greenville Maine has been designated off-limits to all future salvage operations and the area surrounding the crash is a no harvest zone by order of Scott Paper Company and the Plum Creek Timber Company.
| The World's Greatest Aqueduct Water From The Catskill Mountains To The City Of New York
Starting at the Ashokan reservoir in upstate New York (Catskills) the water travels to the Kensico Lake in Valhalla, New York and onto New York City for consumption.
In the late 1930's my father was working for Circle Construction Company out of White Plains, NY on the aqueduct in Valhalla, NY. As an amateur photographer he took many photos during his travels throughout the East Coast.
Wonder if anybody recognizes anyone on the work crews.
Many of the people who built the Kensico Dam and Plaza settled in the Valhalla
area.
Mom preserved these photos in a family album for use all to enjoy.

| Stone, Woods & Cook 1941 Willys Gasser B/GS Stone, Woods & Cook 1941 Willys Gasser B/GS. (SWINDLER II)
The Michigan Hot Rod Association has given the 2008 Preservation Award to this racer. It will be on display at the 56th Detroit Autorama, Cobo Hall, March 6-9, 2008.
The photos in primer were of the car mocked up for fits and part arrangement. The dark blue front end is the original painted Cal Automotive fiberglass pieces that are untouched today. I actually had Rich Venza make some thin replacement race style front pieces to allow us to keep the original front end as part of our display. The interior is completely original Ed Martinez from California. This interior has always been part of the car even when it was a street rod. The era that we tried to capture was 1962 when the car competed at Indy. That is what the outside color and the lettering reflects. At that time the second car (Swindler "A") did not exist so I wanted this car not to take away from the accomplishments of the "A" car. The lettering was originally done by Big Daddy Ed Roth and Larry Hook has captured it to the Nth degree. I can't say enough about his efforts. He was passionate about getting it exact. In 62 they ran an Olds 394 motor which is what is in the car. The trans is an original B&M. Other original parts include the body, frame, traction bars, complete interior, moon tank, headlights, tow bars, bumper and bumper brackets. The restoration took 3 years mostly of research and searching for period correct parts. Joe Troilo.
Joe Troilo restored the car for the current owner Mike Wales. Joe is a two time builder and one time owner of this historic racer.
Thanks to Joe Troilo and Joe Grippo for the photographs.

| 1948 Chevrolet Convertible 48 CHUBBY Street Rod by Thomas McGinnity. Valhalla, NY.
Charter member of the Westchester Street Rod Association-WSRA
A build article on the 48CHUBBY car is being created. We are looking for the photos taken from the day it was purchased in Long Island, NY, made various false starts, and how a way was found to get it built.
We'll tell you what happened to it after the build process was completed. And where it has been since the maiden voyage.
In the mean time you may view the Popular Mechanics article published awhile back, if you wish.
